APPROACH

How I work:
Fifteen years of doing this has left me with a few opinions.

Start with the problem, not the brief

Most creative work fails because nobody agreed on the problem. Briefs describe deliverables. They rarely describe what is actually broken, who it is broken for, or what would count as fixed. I start there, with the business challenge and the audience, before anyone opens a file. It takes longer at the front and saves entire rounds at the back.

Build a system, not a campaign

A good idea produces one execution. A good system produces a hundred and they all feel related. The UPS platform worked because it was a structure, not a tagline, and because it was built to survive being handed to teams I would never meet. Regional offices filmed their own local customer stories inside it and the work still read as one campaign. That is what I am trying to build every time.

Lead the people, protect the work

I have directed designers, writers, photographers, filmmakers, motion teams, freelancers, agencies, and vendors, and I have hired and managed a staff of twelve. My job is to make the direction clear enough that people can do their best work inside it, then keep that work intact through production, budget cuts, and the eleventh round offeedback.

Know what things cost

Running my own business changed how I lead creative. I have made the call between the better idea and the affordable one, and I have lived with the consequences on a P&L. That makes me a faster and more useful partner to marketing, product, and operations, because I am not arguing for craft in a vacuum.

Use AI, keep the judgment

I use AI throughout my workflow, and I designed and shipped an entire live application with it. What it compresses is production time. What it does not do is decide what is worth making. I treat it as leverage on execution and I keep the strategic and editorialcalls human.

Finish the sentence

Work is not done when it looks good. It is done when someone can tell you what it did. Every project on this site ends with a result where I have one, and an honest account where I do not.
